I usually start by working on a few strong one-way links. For long tail keywords that don't have a lot of competition, this is often enough to get them to rank on the first page of the SERPs.
Write and submit a few articles to some strong article directories like Ezinearticles.com and ArticleBase.com Be sure to use the keyword you are going after as part of the anchor text in your resource box link.
Next, find 2 or 3 blogs in your niche that have some page rank and authority and approach the owner about allowing you to write and publish a guest post on their site. Again, use your keywords in the links that are pointing back to your website.
Last but not least submit both the page you want to rank as well as the articles and blog posts you've written for it to some of your favorite social bookmarking service. This will give you a few more links, but more importantly it will make sure that all the content and the links back to your site are indexed quickly.
Sit back and wait for a week or two, then check your rankings. If you're not in the top 3 of Google yet, continue to build more links until you do.
Some of the changes that websites will need to make to recover from poor rankings will take a great deal of time and energy to implement. In these cases, an SEO specialist may actually be more cost effective and may cause fewer headaches than a business trying to correct the problems themselves.
Your main aim to write article is to get back links pointing back to your website.
What are these back links anyway and why are they so useful as to determine your success online?
Most article directories allow you to have a "resource box" or your "bio" as the last paragraph of your article for you to embed a "link" or a "hypertext" for your reader to connect back to your website.
Links from article directories are usually one way in nature, meaning that your link is only pointing back to your website, without having you to point back to them.
This advantage of article marketing allows you to get as many of these back links as many as possible in the shortest time.
The more quality article you write and the more you publish them, the more back links you will generate. In other words, you ride on the popularity of the article directories' page rank to funnel traffic from your article via the back link to your site.
Once your article is published, then your article will remain in the cyberspace for ever and it will continuously serve to drive traffic back to your website without having you to do any more promoting. It will do all your advertising and pre-selling for you as your auto sales man online.
As compared with paid traffic, like PPC (Pay- Per-Click), your source of traffic will totally ceased as soon as you stop advertising.
Search engines often determine the popularity of your site by the number of back links it has. In other words, your Page Rank and the importance of your website's visibility depended on how well-known you are online.
